I got a cold call today from SBC, our DSL provider, telling us we needed to re-register our user name b/c there was some discrepency. The caller couldn’t verify for me in any way that he was an SBC employee - so obviously I was hesitant to go to a web site he gave me and enter my password!!

Turns out that this “discrepancy” was due to us changing phone numbers (AR to TX) and whenever you change numbers, you have to re-register. BUT - “oh yeah - our registration site is down right now. If you type in your password and everything on the screen goes blank, that’s not hackers who now have access to your private information, it’s just our shitty customer service.”
