I’ll do that tomorrow…
I’ve been struggling a bit lately with procrastination. It’s a mild problem at work (I have something to do, but I take my time getting around to it. However, I always finish the task by deadline), and a bigger problem at home (hello? no boss, no paycheck, no teacher, no grades!). Josh and I seem at times to be the worst housekeepers in the history of housekeeping. I STILL have a dining room full of junk to be unpacked and put away. I STILL have boxes in the hallway that we walk around every day. I STILL don’t know where all my clothes are. And this is a month after I moved here!
But forget unpacking. There’s also the problem of cleaning regularly (our bathrooms are hideous), cooking (uhhh take out bill?? yipes), laundry, dishes, and so forth and forever.
I found a site that spoke of the different types of procrastinators. I liked the insight on two main groups of procrastinators - the relaxed type, and the tense-afraid type. The former is the kind who feels negatively towards work, so they blow it off and go play instead. The latter is more of a perfectionist?unrealistic about time and self-pressured by the sheer amount of stuff to do.
Amy will always be the one in my mind who managed her procrastination the best in college. She was forever studying in small increments, putting off play (or naps) to get that homework done. Me? I was up all night so frequently?she can attest to what a moody roommate I was! I think I’m a little bit of both relaxed/tense but falling more heavily towards the tense.
What type of a procrastinator are you? And what do you do to combat it?
