My reasons for disabling anonymous posters is none of your business. If you have something to say about or to me or my blog, livejournal accounts are free.

Melody,
I’m fully aware LJ accounts are free. I didn’t have anything to say about your comment, I was simply publicizing it for free. You’re welcome.
Since you asked, here’s my take on your post: Calling an entire group of people who disagree with Ann Coulter coming to Harding “hypocrites” is the equivalent of calling African Americans stupid. You can not make a blanket statement about a group of people as though they all act or think the same way. The majority of those who disagree with the Coulter invitation have done so in a mature manner. I suggest that you link to, or atleast point in the general direction of some of the posts you were referring to instead of judging an entire group.

If you will read what I said in my post, I was indicating that their actions and words, at least to me, are no better than what they are condemning Coulter for. I have no problem with the fact that they disagree with her or have issues with her speaking at Harding. My problem is that, from where I stand, they are sinking to her level in expressing themselves.

By the way, I went back to some of the postings that I had seen as the most vehement on Saturday. And I tried looking at them from another point of view. And while on Saturday they looked to be very harsh, I can see also how at the same time they are people who have been hurt and disappointed by an institution that they trust and believe in.
So maybe I did jump the gun on calling them hypocrites. But at the time, that is the view point I was seeing.
My opinion was also colored by the fact that people confusing the American Studies Institute with Harding University. While ASI is on the Harding Campus, and Harding hosts many of their events, the actions of ASI are not those of Harding University. Same that the actions of Harding Academy, Harding Place and Harding Graduate School of Religion are not the actions of Harding University. They are different organizations with different people in charge. Writing to the administration may bring about a change in the ASI, but the more effective route would be to contact the heads of ASI.

Well put. Thanks for your input, Melody. Oh, and I still couldn’t post to your blog (friends only is turned on). You really keep that thing buttoned up!

Melody: The actions of the ASI and Harding are one in the same. The decision on which speakers to invite begins with the president. ASI only distances itself from Harding when the IRS shows up. Ask anybody who actually works at Harding and they’ll tell you the same thing.
