We’re Expecting!

Well, not quite.

Last weekend Brian J. from Little Rock came out to stay with us because he and Josh were going to Opening Day (Red Sox v. Rangers). So we cleaned like mad and I finally got Josh to put the Christmas decorations I so nicely packed away in early January up in the attic. Our attic access is outside on the front porch, and when he was out there he noticed this:

I can just hear this bird thinking, “Let’s see, where to build a nest… Something that doesn’t require effort…this looks nice! Roomy, comfortable–all it needs is a couple twigs. Ok, three. I’m done!”
Here’s a blurry pic of her watching me from the neighbor’s roof while I try to quickly take pictures before she swoops down and pecks me.

I looked her up– she’s a Mourning Dove. In the pidgeon family, of course.

  1. Hey! That’s really cool! Usually when I run across some animal’s little home, it is some kind of stinging-insect’s nest.

  2. You got to go to the Red Sox game!!! Jealous!!! At the school I work at all the kids made “Go Red Sox” pendants in class. And on Tuesday all the kids and staff are dressing up for the Sox home opener. We’re big on team pride here in Mass. We gotta do something to forget its so freakin cold in the middle of April.

You got me…before I saw the pictures I really thought you were expecting!

You WILL call your mother before blogging “We’re expecting!” the next time!
    I forgot the bird story… :)

  5. Sorry Mom! (and heather h.) I didn’t think that would work as well as it did! :) Fortunately, I’m still very much enjoying the child-less life.

  6. Are any of the 3 twigs even weaved, or overlapped, or anything that would suggest a nesting instinct? Maybe she’s one of those on Maury Povich that went into labor one day to to her complete surprise?
