Wow.

We’re watching Spike Lee’s special on New Orleans and Katrina, When The Levees Broke. The 40+ photos they just showed of dead bodies lying around the city made me sick in a way not unlike watching Holocaust footage at the National Holocaust Museum in D.C. back in May. I remember people comparing it to the Holocaust when it happened, and that annoyed me because so many millions of people died. The two seemed incomprable. But look at the photos. Watch the documentary. And ask yourself why it took so long, here at home.

Stacie recently wrote about the Israel-Lebanon conflict,

What if it was our children in bags, our children lying dead in the streets, our families torn apart by bombs? Would it be different?

This WAS our people lying dead in the streets, and for too long nothing was done. I can’t help but see a strong connection. Even today, the apathy seems the same toward both places.

  1. I really wanted to watch each part of that special. I hope to catch it on DVD at some point. I’d love to hear more what you though about it from an artistic standpoint!

  2. Here’s another question: Why didn’t they leave?

    Hurricane ON IT’S WAY!!!!!!

  3. T -I find your remark pretty insensitive. You should watch the film.
