In no particular order
A meme started by Josh:
Thin Red Line
Purchased at Best Buy in Little Rock about four years ago. Unfortunately not the first edition that had the Malaysian chants on it.
I think this movie is the epitome of art captured in film; it’s visual, musical and poetic all at once. I love the scene where Pvt. Bell reads the letter from his wife that she wants a divorce, after watching him cling to her in his only link to sanity is heartbreaking. Only one of many beautiful scenes.
Almost Famous, Untitled
Josh bought this somewhere…
Philip Seymour Hoffman rocks in this movie. My two favorite scenes would be “ELEVEN!?!!” and “You’ll meet them all again on their long journey to the middle.”
The Hours
Christmas present from Dustin & Amy.
I can’t put my finger on it, but this movie just captivates me. It’s a sort of ‘women of all times have experienced the same emotions’ concept. The scene where Julianne Moore is imagining her death and water rushes in the room is pretty surreal.
Sense and Sensibility
No recollection of when I bought the DVD, but Mom got the VHS as soon as it came out.
I’m in love with Pride and Prejudice, too, but there’s something about Emma Thompson hyperventilating that makes me laugh and simultaneously happy we no longer wear corsets.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Another one Josh bought.
Jim Carrey’s best role and one of the greatest concepts for story telling ever. I love when they’re walking through the house arguing and showing up in rooms they couldn’t possibly have come from.
Oh, and all the above have great music.
