You must fess up if you own these albums

Ok, so I can kind of see why the promo guys at NBC used the clip they did to promote tonight’s episode of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, despite how nauseating it was to watch. There wasn’t much else in the episode to pull a viewer in than the love story angle. I suppose it was also trying to tie into the whole journalist-digging-for-information-for-a-love-story that lasted the whole show. Anyway, despite having seen the footage in the promo, the show ending caught me by surprise. There’s just something about Sting playing Fields of Gold on a lute that makes you feel all mushy inside.

Of course this version of Fields of Gold is probably not recorded anywhere on earth, but I tried looking anyway on itunes only to find a horrendous number of covers, including ones by John Tesh, a punk band called Beer Bong and a group who named themselves ‘Band of Gold.’

What took the cake, though, were the album names on which these attrocious covers were recorded… the best of which was Sax for Lovemaking: Music for a Night of Passion. (Running a close second was John Tesh’s oh-so-appropriately-named “Sax by the Fire”).

UPDATE: So I lied… the lute version is on Sting’s new album (what, pimping a new album on a tv show? who thought of this?!) which, if you have itunes, can be heard here.

I definitely have Fields of Gold. The other ones I would most likely not touch with a 10 ft pole.

LOVE the new banner btw. Rooting for them too!!!

  2. I just watched that episode on tivo (i couldn’t last night - was watching the Arizona Cardinals epitomize their entire history in one night) and I have to say it may have been my favorite episode of the year so far. It’s crazy that they can make me feel so much for characters that have only existed for 5 episodes to this point.

Josh - thanks for letting me know about Greg’s camera. He already sold it and it was the old Rebel 6.1 mpx however, we’re still considering the 10.1 XTi. What do y’all have? Isn’t it a Canon dSLR??

  4. it is a canon dSLR but that’s all I know about it. Heather knows more. Heather?

  5. Actually, neither of you are correct. It’s a Nikon D50 SLR. We went with the older model and got 2 lenses. Works like a charm! I’d recommend B&H.

    Your top changes. That’s crazy.

  7. I like sting but there is none on my ipod

  8. There’s no Sting on our ipod, either. In fact, I think the only Sting we own is an old police album… But I like the FoG cut with lute.
