Random Tangent

Something in me gets really pissed off when a person who claims to be “a writer” misspells pretty basic words. And not just once, but multiple times, throughout an entire blog post, because the post is exactly about THAT WORD. Recent examples of note include cemetary and stationary (in reference to paper goods). Perhaps the latter bothers me more than it would most people since I work in that industry and I’ve seen many resumes with this mistake. I mean, it’s the equivalent of being a lawyer and not being able to spell subpoena. Or not being able to speak in public… or something. You get it right?

There are others in the blogosphere (including myself) who frequently misspell words (or more annoyingly, don’t use paragraph breaks) but I don’t really care. They’re regular people who didn’t choose writing as a career. So, am I wrong to think that a writer, a crafter of words, should value using the right one lest their meaning be lost?
