30 months vs 50 months vs 0 months
I was at Starbucks the other day before work. While waiting for my drink I browsed the music rack. After glancing at the sticker price for Icky Thump (17.99!!!) I received a larger shock when my eyes rested on that morning’s New York Times. The headline read something like BUSH COMMUTES LIBBY SENTENCE.
The balls on this guy. At what point do we start admitting the parallels between Bush and Nixon? (Or for that matter Iraq and Vietnam?) When will churchgoing conservatives and others amongst the 29% peel off the stickers from their cars and admit to themselves that they were deceived?
Hating Bush has become something of a cliche; like hating Wal-Mart or the Yankees or Paris Hilton. However I’ve yet to meet someone who will get red in the face defending the virtues of Paris Hilton. I’m sure I have some friends who, if given the opportunity, will tell me that this entire Scooter Libby thing has been an invention of The Left and aided by The Media. The fact that Bush commuted his friend’s sentence is not a big deal, they will say. (Examples of prominent democrats doing the same thing could then be used as damning evidence, further illustrating that Bush, et. al. did nothing wrong.)
I am angry and sad, but mostly angry.

Presidential pardons do seem like Monopoly board moves don’t they? “Oh well Clinton did this” and “Democrats have done that” stances are childish coming from an administration that has shown nothing but contempt for the rule of law. Besides shouldn’t a current administration at least try to do things better than a former one in terms of setting a better example. History doesn’t look too kindly on Hubris.

You are right. JoMo is right. And Nathan and I too are angry, a little tired of it all. We considered defecting to Sweden…
Thanks for the comment on the post about my website! I think you’re right, a copyright comment would be good. Thanks for the idea!
