We voted. Then we returned to caucus. About 200 people show up at our polling location! I hiss at the Clinton line. We wait. A scary man with many large, bulging moles asks me if this is my first caucus. He has been coming since 1968 and has never seen this large a turnout. We sign the sheet. Then we hang around until everything is counted to hear the results.
Josh and I argue about whether the delegate has to use his or her own money to attend the convention or if the party or the state pays for them. Josh thinks I want to be a delegate because it is like a free vacation. I can’t argue, but I tell him not to make fun of me. He mocks me in his best girl voice (the same voice he uses to impersonate his mother), “Don’t embarrass me at the caucus!”
Most people stay only to get their name on the sheet, and only about 30 people remain to vote on delegates and alternates. As the odd voting process begins, we sneak out. Maybe we’ll sign up for that free vacation in 2012.

Ah yes the “girl” voice, I can hear it in my head as clear as knowing that Clinton can’t beat McCain.
Go Obama!

I just saw the smirk on Josh’s face as he said that.
We had a crazy turn out, too. It took us a hour just to sign in and leave. I really enjoyed it; it felt like the first local community experience I’ve had since moving to Richardson.

Our caucus was complete chaos, but we lucked out because the end of the line became the beginning of the line which got us out of there fairly quickly.
One of the volunteers looked exactly like John Hodgman.
