I think I have two favorite parts of the Dark Knight. (My two favorite parts today that is)

They prob contain spoilers, so for the two of you that haven’t seen it yet, let’s talk about that in a second.

If you saw it this weekend chances are you saw the Watchmen trailer preceding it. I haven’t read Watchmen, although I started to earlier this year and then had to return it. However this trailer makes me want to buy it and read it right now.

Seriously - what an EXCELLENT trailer!

Barely any dialog, awesome Pumpkins song (which was on the WTF - Batman and Robin soundtrack) and strange iconic visuals. Dudes turning into multiplicity blue alien men, blowing up and flamethrowing Vietcong while laughing and smoking cigars? Throngs of people angry and rioting? A weird submarine ship comes out of the water and flies by a cityscape that features the Twin Towers?? This thing did everything a trailer should do - it didn’t give away too many plot points but was interesting and just confusing enough to make you want to know more.

Well, maybe just make people in my special demographic want to know more.

Batman -

1. “They told me one of us is going to die and they’d let our friends decide.”

2. When the clock strikes midnight and the look on the Joker’s face.

There’s probably twenty other moments that are just as good, those are just the two that I’ve been stewing over the most recently.

I’ve added a few new blogs to the feed lately and thought some of you might like them, too. My apologies if you’ve been reading any of these for years and I’m late to the party:

Neatorama: I think I saw this once a while back, but it’s a fun smattering of all things random from the internet. Today I checked out a pretty cool series of wine glasses created in the theme of the seven deadly sins. Envy is my favorite.

Smitten Kitchen: My friend Amy turned me on to this one. It’s a very colorful food blog, that features everything from pizza to wedding cake. The photographs are so delicious looking, and you can even order prints of them.

Contrariwise: A blog of literary-themed tattoos. I’ve always thought I’d get bored with body art that never changes, but I love the idea of a tattoo combining typography and classic literature. Like all tattoos, though, there are always a few really poorly thought out ones (see: Comic Sans, Footprints in the Sand) Luckily, Sylvia Plath and Kurt Vonnegut tend to be more popular. Be sure to check out the Blogroll at Contrariwise - there’s hours of hilarious tattoo enjoyment there.

Yay for Friday :)

Read this today from the AVClub, they had an interview with Rolling Stone columnist Matt Taibbi -

AVC: The other night, Larry King was talking about the election with Joy Behar from The View—

MT: [Laughs.] There’s two intellectual giants debating politics.

AVC: Behar was talking about some US Magazine cover where they explore Michelle Obama’s relationship with her husband. It’s even called something like “Why Barack Loves Her.” And Behar was saying, “Well, not everyone reads The New York Times or watches the news, so this might be the only way they get to know about the Obamas.” Are we that hopeless?

MT: Oh, man. That’s terrifying. I’m out there on the campaign trail all the time talking to people who are going to vote in this election. I was talking to this woman in Louisiana last week, and she’s standing at a McCain rally, she’s actually there supporting the candidate in person, and I say, “What is it about Barack Obama that you don’t like?” She turns to her friend and says, “What was that thing about his wife? That anti-American thing?” The other one says, “I don’t know. Which thing do you mean?” And she’s like, “That thing, where she’s anti-American.” And the other one is like, “Oh, I don’t know. I don’t know what you mean.” And so she says to me, “Well, I heard this thing about her being anti-American.” That was as specific as she could be about why she didn’t like Barack Obama, because she heard a thing somewhere about his wife. People are voting on the basis of shit like that. [Laughs.] How we’re not back in the Stone Age already with this situation, the way it’s going, is beyond me.

We came to Texas in April of 2005. I took a job with the Dallas Cowboys, which was a backwards career move but a way to get out of Arkansas. Just as going to Harding was probably a mistake but I met Heather, going to work for Jerry TV was a mistake except for the fact that it brought us to Dallas and to all our new friends.

In the fall of last year I went on anti-depressants and finally got over the hump of my crappy job and gained the courage (and necessary savings) needed to quit.

For several months I did not work very much. I was technically freelancing but could have made more money delivering pizzas. Don’t think the thought didn’t cross my mind.

I was happy to be rid of the bad job but worried about finding a new one. I prayed about it. One of Heather’s contacts forwarded my info to a small post house in downtown. I started freelancing fulltime for them after an interview and they hired me as fulltime staff 3 weeks ago.

Heather and I moved out of Richardson and back to Lakewood. We hired movers again and they were spectacular. We moved on Saturday and planned to go back and clean the old house on Sunday. In the morning we found that we did not have hot water and could not find a hot water heater. So we had to bring back a shower curtain and change of clothes to the old house and shower there.

I was very grumpy and was mean to Heather. After my shower I apologized and she forgave me, and we cleaned. And it sucked but it was eventually over, and our new landlord in the interim phoned to tell me the water heater was in the attic so I could light the pilot light.

We went to youtube and found a video which explained how to do so. I went up to the attic and tried unsuccessfully for 20 minutes. On the way back to the attic ladder I put my foot (and leg) through my neighbor’s ceiling.

Dirty, sweaty, covered in cuts, bruises, and insulation, I retreated to wash up in my cold shower of failure.

On Monday we got our new TV delivered. Today a new water heater is being installed. We love our new place and love being back in Lakewood.

We are very blessed and are excited at what the future will bring to our careers and our relationship.

(well I’m excited anyways.)
